Editorial Services

Are you working on a novel or a memoir? A short story or essay collection? Maybe you’re writing a podcast or creating a website and need scripts or other content.

If you’re trying to conceptualize any kind of writing project, a good editor can help with several aspects of the process: developing the idea, outlining and writing, editing the draft, and proofreading the final manuscript or project.

I’ve been a creative writing professor for almost twenty years, as well as a literary magazine and book editor for almost a decade. I teach in the MA in Writing Program at The Johns Hopkins University, I served as Editor in Chief of The Baltimore Review for seven years, and I’ve written and edited over fifteen books.

Here’s my process for working with other writers:

  • We will have an initial phone call (15 min) to talk about your idea and what you have accomplished/drafted so far.
  • If I think we can work together, I will ask to see about 10 pages of your writing.
  • At that point, we will discuss the scope of the work and rates. We will set a clear timeline for me to send you feedback and discuss revisions. My rates include a review of one major revision.
  • I can also advise you about how to approach agents and publishers when your work is ready to send out.
